Marbella Kelet, one of the most popular areas of the Costa del Sol, is becoming increasingly popular with foreign visitors and investors alike. The beaches to the east of Marbella are often considered the best for their large size and clean sand. Where is Marbella East located?

Marbella East area is considered to be everything from the famous arch at the entrance to Marbella that reads “Welcome to Marbella” to Cabopino. Marbella East lies along the A7 coastal road – the primary road through the area – and stretches up from the coast and into the mountains. Many well-known personalities are attracted to Marbella’s charms and often buy property here. One of Marbella’s favourites, Antonio Banderas, has a beach house in Los Monteros. Simon Cowell, the British TV personality, chose the eastern part of Marbella years ago as one of the locations for his X Factor show and has also bought a luxury villa in Sierra Blanca, another of Marbella’s most prestigious locations.Some of Marbella’s most well known beach clubs are located in this area, including Nikki Beach, Trocadero Arena and Playa Padre.

History of Marbella East

The history of Marbella East dates back to the 14th century, when the area was still dominated by Islamic culture. In the area around the Cabopino harbour, the Moors built a tower called “Torre Ladrones”, which is still visible today. This tower was later fortified and extended by the Christians to protect the people of the area from pirates. In the early 20th century, it was still a fishing village, but in the 1960s the area changed with the boom in tourism. The growth of the property market allowed wealthy tourists and foreign holidaymakers to buy new houses and villas. The history and development of Marbella East shows that the area has always been attractive to tourists and investors. It has managed to preserve the authentic Spanish atmosphere and rural life, while the growth of the property market has allowed modernisation and development.

Residential areas in Marbella East

  1. Rio Real: One of the most exclusive areas in the east of Marbella. Here you will find the Rio Real Golf Course , which offers excellent opportunities for golf lovers. This area will soon see significant growth as the Marriot group are soon embarking on a large tourist hotel and residential complex.
  2. Los Monteros: A luxury residential area, in the centre of which is the Los Monteros Hotel. Next to the hotel, Club de Padel Los Monteros is a very popular club in the East of Marbella and is ideal for padel lovers, both professional and amateur. The club has 11 courts and offers coaches and educational programmes. Exclusive villas and apartments are located in this area, as well as several beach bars and restaurants. Here you will find the International College Spain, one of the most prestigious international school with excellent educational facilities.
  1. Los Altos de Los Monteros: Located at the foot of the Los Monteros mountain, it is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Marbella. Almost all of the luxury villas here offer panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding mountains.
  2. Los Monteros Playa: It is part of the Los Monteros area and offers excellent opportunities for beach and sunbathing. There are several restaurants and bars along the sandy beach, and Malaga University has a branch in the area.
  3. Bahía de Marbella: is a residential community founded in 1995, which has been continuously built and improved since then… The Hospital Costa del Sol is located opposite the hospital, has a fantastic beach connection and its dunes are called Playa Alicate.
  4. El Rosario: There are a number of popular beaches in the surrounding area, and a variety of entertainment facilities such as golf courses, tennis courts and bars are nearby. The beaches are sandy and pleasant and considered the best in the Marbella area.
  8. La Mairena: A region in the east of Marbella, in a beautiful natural setting, where tranquillity and privacy are the hallmarks of the area. The area is located in the middle of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, in an exceptional natural setting. The area is home to exclusive villas and apartments, as well as a golf course. The school here is the Deutsche Schule Málaga, which is a German private school. Set back a little from the coast (10 minute drive), it sits on the mountain top providing magnificent views.

  11. Cabopino: What was once a small fishing village has become a popular seaside resort, popular with tourists. The port of Cabopino is a true paradise for sailors, where you can see traditional fishing boats alongside luxury yachts. The beach is sheltered by the dunes adjacent to the harbour, providing visitors with a calm and safe place to swim and sunbathe. The beach is Blue Flag certified, which means that the sea quality is excellent and the beach complies with ecological and environmental criteria.

  1. Siroko Beach is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Here guests can enjoy delicious seafood while enjoying the wonderful view of the beach. The restaurant is one of the best in the area, with fresh fish and seafood being the main attraction of the menu.

The atmosphere here on a Sunday in Sunday is simply great – lively and fun!  Locals flock here in the summer months to listen to live music from the house band Habana de los Locos under the stars in the afternoons and late evenings to salsa, merengue and bacchata. The club acts as a small island where guests can enjoy real Cuban food and drink, sparkling sunshine and a pleasant beachside atmosphere. Ranchon Cubano is very popular with locals and tourists alike and is a great place to relax and unwind.
  10. Aquí Te Quiero Ver – This traditional seaside restaurant has been run by the same family since it opened in 1977, a Spanish chiringuito full of history and character, with a charming traditional setting, simple rustic décor, friendly service and delicious regional specialities prepared with great care using the best local flavours and ingredients.   Being located on one of Marbella’s best beaches is a big advantage, but the main attraction of Aqui Te Quiero Ver has always been the food. From the mouth-watering Arroz Negro to the Costa del Sol’s signature Espeto de Sardinas to the perfectly fried Pescaito Frito (fried fish), there’s a great traditional dish to suit all tastes. What sport facilities are in Marbella East?

  1. Golf: The area is famous for its golf courses, making it one of the most popular sports for golfers. In the east of Marbella East there are several golf courses where locals and tourists alike can enjoy the game. One of the most famous in this area is the Rio Real Golf Club, which boasts an 18-hole, par 72 course of over 6,000 metres in length. The course runs along the Rio Real River, from which it takes its name. The river is an integral part of the course, which was designed by Javier Arana and opened in 1965. It is considered one of the best golf courses in Spain by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation. There is also a golf academy on site, run by Sergio de Cespedes. Another popular one is the Santa Clara Golf Club with a Par 71, 18-hole course with a length of 5922 metres. Designed by Enrique Canales Busquet and opened in 1987, the Marbella Golf and Country Club. 
  2. Padel tennis: This is becoming an increasingly popular sport in Spain, so it’s no surprise that there are many courts in the east of Marbella. Paddle tennis is a mixture of tennis and racquetball and is a very enjoyable game – much easier to learn than tennis!!
  3. Water sports: The beaches in Marbella East offer a variety of water sports such as swimming, surfing, kayaking, and jet skiing. Water sports centers on the beach include The Point Marbella, located in Marbella East, where visitors can hire jet skis, water bikes, and other equipment, as well as take part in educational programs.
  4. Mountain biking: the mountain areas in the area are ideal for mountain biking enthusiasts. There are plenty of challenging routes in the area where visitors can enjoy beautiful views and challenging terrain.
  5. Amazonia Adventure Park: Az The park features over 100 different challenging obstacle courses that include zip lines, bridges and other exciting challenges.

Schools in Marbella East

The English International College (EIC) is one of the most popular and prestigious schools in Marbella East because it places a strong emphasis on student achievement and preparation for further study. EIC is a highly regarded British school, offering education for children aged 3 to 18. The school was founded in 1982 and has become a favourite with families in Marbella East because of its rigorous pedagogy and outstanding results. The school provides excellent preparation for A-levels and offers students the opportunity to study at any UK or international university.

The Las Chapas Girls’ School, located in Marbella East, a residential area in Elviria, has a sister school, the ECOS Boys’ School, also nearby. Both schools in Marbella East are very popular and offer excellent educational opportunities for students who wish to learn Spanish and English.
